For years Anna Faris was the whipping girl for film critics and film journalists right around the world. Her choice of commercial comedies made her an easy target and the press loved to sink the boot in. That all changed in early 2013 though with her performance in the British comedy ‘I Give It A Year’ showing that she had what it took to be a serious comedy actress.
Anna Kay Faris was born on Nov. 29, 1976, in Baltimore, Maryland, although she actually grew up in Edmonds, Washington. Her father Jack Faris was a sociologist at the University Of Washington and her mother Karen was a special needs teacher.
Her parents encouraged her acting career from an early age by allowing to act in professional theater productions from the age of nine. When she was 14 and attending Edmonds-Woodway High School she earned an acting role in a frozen-yogurt commercial, she then went on to study English Literature at the University of Washington.
Soon after graduation she started to get acting roles in films such as ‘Eden’ and ‘Deception: A Mother’s Secret’ before landing her break-out role in the comedy-horror parody film ‘Scary Movie’ in which she played Cindy Campbell, a character based on Neve Campbell’s role in the ‘Scream’ franchise. Since then she has also starred in three other ‘Scary Movie’ films.
She then went on to star in comedies like ‘The Hot Chick’ and ‘Winter Break’ before showing some dramatic skills in ‘Lost In Translation’. This led to a role in ‘Brokeback Mountain’ before she returned to comedy with roles in television shows such as ‘King Of The Hill’ and ‘Friends’. Since then she has also had roles in notable films such as ‘Waiting…’, ‘My Super Ex-Girlfriend’, ‘Observe And Report’, ‘Yogi Bear’, ‘What’s Your Number’ and ‘Movie 43’. She has also done voice acting work on two ‘Alvin & The Chipmunks’ movies and on ‘Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs’ as well as appearing in hit series ‘Entourage’.
Faris has also become known as a model and she has frequently made ‘Hottest Women’ lists worldwide. She has also made the cover of ‘Playboy’, ‘Cosmopolitan’, ‘Raygun’ and ‘Self’ as well as frequently appearing in ‘FHM’.
On a personal note she married her first husband Ben Indra in 2004 after they first met on the set of ‘Lovers Lane’ in 1999. Faris and Indra divorced in 2008 and she has since then married actor Chris Pratt in 2009. The couple are still married and had their first child on the 25th August 2012 – a son called Jack.
After Anna Faris’ return to form in ‘I Give It A Year’ she is next set to do some more voice acting work in ‘Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2’ before then starring in the Ellen Page directed ‘Miss Stevens’.
