Supermodel Cindy Crawford was born  on the 20th February 1966 in DeKalb, Illinois. Named Cynthia Ann Crawford by her parents, Jennifer Sue Crawford-Moluf nee Walker and John Crawford, the young Cindy spent her childhood in a middle class home in DeKalb.  Sadly, the couple’s second child died of leukaemia when Cindy was only ten years of age and at a later stage, the couple divorced.

As a teenager, Cindy attended DeKalb high school where she and her then quarterback boyfriend were voted prom King and Queen. After leaving school, Cindy went on to win an academic scholarship to study chemical engineering and moved to Chicago’s Northwestern University. However, after six months the seventeen year old left University to pursue her career in modelling after being spotted by a newspaper photographer and winning the Model Management Look of the Year contest.

Cindy moved to Manhattan in 1976 and gained a contract with the Elite New York model agency, where she was nicknamed Baby Gia because of her resemblance to the late model Gia Carangi. Cindy’s stunning looks, which included a distinctive facial mole, height of five feet nine inches and athletic physique resulted in her becoming a popular model and personality with photographers and the public.

During the early stages of her career, Cindy was featured on the cover of Vogue magazine and as her career flourished she showed herself to be an approachable, intelligent young woman who was willing to share her life experiences. Cindy’s openness and winning character soon led her to appear on television where she hosted the MTV’s House of Style.

During the 1980s and 1990s, Cindy was at the height of her career and was one of the most popular supermodels and appearing in popular magazines,  film, videos, talk shows and promoting beauty products.  

On the 12th December 1991, Cindy married the actor Richard Gere at the Little Church of the West in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, the marriage was short-lived and they divorced in 1995. Cindy went on to marry Randa Gerber on the May 29, 1998. She gave birth to Presley Walker Gerber on the 7th February 1999 and Kaya Jordan Gerber on the ninth March 2001.

Cindy retired from modelling in 2000, but she is not adverse to making appearances and was recently featured on the cover of Vogue Mexico. She also created a line of beauty products and a range of furniture. During her career, she was known as a generous personality who contributed to several charities including research into leukaemia.

Cindy Crawford is not only a beautiful woman who has had a successful modelling career, but her level headedness and intelligence has resulted in her becoming a popular figure with the media and public.
