Cucumber Sandwich Recipes

Cucumbers make a delicious addition to most any garden salad, but they also make great sandwiches. There are a number of different ways to make a cucumber sandwich using different kinds of breads and spreads, but butter or mayo seems to be the most popular.

Onions compliment cucumbers very well so adding them to your cucumber sandwich will give you lots of flavor and more nutrition. Tomatoes are another tasty addition, along with spices such as garlic salt, and oregano.

The Traditional Cucumber Sandwich:

– two slices of white or whole-wheat bread
– 1 cucumber, thinly sliced (longways)
– 1 or two teaspoon of mayo or butter
– dash of salt/pepper

Spread mayo or butter over both slices of bread, arrange cucumber slices along one slice, salt and pepper to taste, cover with the other slice of bread.

There are several variations of course. Different kinds of breads add different flavors such as onion bread, Italian bread, garlic, poppy seed, rye, and more. While mayo or butter make excellent spreads, try experimenting with other spreads or dressings like, ranch or blue cheese.
