If you visit the Sunshine Coast, some one hundred kilometres north of Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, Australia, you will hear of Marroochydoore. It is a major town in the centre of this beautiful sub tropical region which has as its southern boundary marker, the town of Caloundra and it’s northern extent is the popular resort town of Noosa Heads. Marroochydoore is also a settlement with a fair amount of industry pertaining to the area for it has boat building facilities and primary producing factory areas. As well there is a comprehensive shopping complex where one can buy almost anything for a vacation as well as supplying the locals with all they need. It is also the administrative town of the Sunshine Coast area.
With a population of round twenty-one thousand which swells in vacation time, Marroochydoore is in fact a well established and popular beach resort .To get there, it is best to hire a car in Brisbane and travel the one hundred and twelve kilometres north on the Bruce Highway before turning right at the sign to Buderim and going out to the coast where this settlement lies.The surf beaches here are famous and the Maroochy River gives the visitor a safe calm haven for fishing. Here on the river are pelicans, swans and seagulls, all giving Maroochydoore the flavour of a settlement by the water. River cruises are a daily event and the boat takes visitors up the river to Dunethin Rock, a prominent landmark in the area. On this cruise the river meanders through the many sugar cane fields in this area.
If you want to camp here, Cotton Tree is a very popular place here to do so.The twelve motels and five other camping grounds as well as the hotel will give the visitor a real chance to stay and enjoy this Sunshine Coast town. Marroochydore area was the home of the indigenous aborigines before European settlement and some of their legends are depicted in the unique colored sand paintings to be found in Bern Kemps Gallery of sand paintings in Bradman Avenue.
There is the Sunshine Coast airport here at Maroocydoore and visitors fly in here from Brisbane and fan out all over the Sunshine Coast as this is a most central point to embark. It is probably only half an hour down to Caloundra from here and Mooloolaba is nearby and to Noosa Heads it is only about half an hour too . There are buses that connect all towns here on the Sunshine Coast.
