My Black and Decker Handy Chopper Plus has been one of the best things in my kitchen for a while. It is a workhorse for those small jobs that require high power and quality.
Whether grinding a cup of peanuts, chopping tear-free onions, creating a carrot salad, or getting a finely chopped mix of herbs, this little chopper gets the small jobs done without the hassle of hauling out a larger appliance and cleaning it up.
There are only three pieces to wash: the blades, the lid, and the container, so cleanup can be done as soon as the chopping is finished. It is a snap to get the chopper dry and ready for another small job.
My Handy Chopper is also essential to making individual smoothies. I use it to chop carrots and larger pieces of hard fruit, such as apples, into manageable pieces, for the bullet blender. It is as fast and easy as putting the pieces in, pulsing for a bit, and even doing a few rounds of chopping and putting extra pieces into a bag to freeze or store until ready to use.
The lid can be a bit balky, like many chopper lids. You have to line the lid up correctly before the unit will operate. But I store the item with the lid latched, in order to keep everything from changing shape, which can happen when the lid is stored separately. The pieces are hand washed in a flash with warm, soapy water, and the base unit is wiped with a damp rag.
The unit is small, so it can sit on the counter, ready for use at any time. At a capacity of 1.5 cups, it is custom made for small jobs, but larger jobs can be done in a couple of chopping sessions.
You have to remove the blade and clear the container in order to remove the chopped contents from the first run. Then the blade pops back in, the next batch goes in, and the lid goes on. This can be cumbersome when more than a couple of rounds of chopping is required, so it is best to consider the handy chopper a tool for small jobs, and to get a larger capacity chopper for the bigger jobs.
When you need garlic and onion, a cup of chopped carrots, some chopped herbs, or ground nuts without the hassle of breaking out the larger appliances, there is nothing better than the Black & Decker Handy Chopper.
